What is the course?
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) gives you the knowledge that you need to teach. It is a nationally recognised qualification, accredited through Open College Network West Midlands Region (OCNWMR). We’ve combined AET with the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA), which is the course you need if you want to become an educational assessor. Once you have completed this, you’ll have a teaching AND an assessing qualification.
Who is it for?
AETCAVA is ideal for teachers, tutors, trainers or anyone planning to deliver sessions and assess qualifications. We have helped chefs, beauty therapists, support workers, business development professionals, health and safety trainers, nurses, hairdressers, job coaches, HR managers and in-house trainers become more effective teachers and assessors in their field.
I’m not actually teaching, training or doing any sort of delivery at the moment though…
That’s fine for AET because the only observation you’ll have is a microteach session. This is a 15-minute session that you will deliver to your tutor and a group on a subject of your choice. You’ll receive feedback and you’ll do the same for others. It’s a bit nerve wracking, like any assessment, but it’s an excellent opportunity to get feedback on your teaching and to see how others deliver.
What about the assessing side of the course?
For CAVA, it’s important that you’re occupationally competent in the area you’d like to assess, which means that if you want to assess retail NVQs, you’ll need to have worked in retail within the last 10 years. You also need to be already working with at least one learner because we will need to observe you in the workplace with them. We can give you advice and guidance if you’re not sure about either of these elements.
I want to do this through distance learning! How will the microteach work for me?
In one of two ways. You can either send in a video of you carrying out your microteach, or you can arrange to take part in one group session with other delegates either in person or by Skype/Facetime. This will of course depend on where you are based and what cohorts are taking place when you’re ready to do your microteach.
How much time will it take?
Around 78 guided learning hours. If you have chosen distance learning, you can work through as quickly as you wish. There are a variety of ways that the classroom version can be structured, plus your tutor will observe you in your workplace.
How much will it cost?
